J writes, “Ex-Girlfriend’s Club up first: the singer was like some frankenstein’s hodge podge of Joey Ramone, Mick Jagger, and Iggy Pop. He’s about 9 feet tall, and he was the best performer i’ve seen in a minute. They tore up a homage to the early to mid 60s, at times extremely reminiscent of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, but laced with amphetamines and booze, to conjure the true theater of the absurd and dangerous. It was like some shamanic invocation, to tear a hole through time, space, and history, to that meta-reality where everything is happening simultaneously, and the spirit of cynicism, ‘been there, done that.’ has no room to breathe and breed. They ended with one of the most excellent stage dives I’ve ever seen, with the singer than running around the infernal theater, knocking over beers and singing into people’s eyes. Tremendous. Highly Recommended! “

The Ex-Girlfriends Club is excited to announce the release of their debut album entitled Boo Hoo Hoo on Jan 31st, 2012.  It will be available on Amazon, iTunes and CDbaby as well as their live shows.  On January 18th, XGFC will be having an early release party at Dante’s in Portland, OR with some of their favorite bands including Di Di Mau!, Holy Children, Sexywaterspiders, and No Tomorrow Boys.  Come down to Dante’s to get your copy before anyone else.

The Ex-Girlfriends Club would like to thank Nick Hilden from SSG  Music for including them in its top 10 Portland bands of 2011 along with The Lovesores, LSD&D, and heavy weights Red Fang.  Nick called XGFC, “An immediate explosion of wailing, ripping garage rock piloted by Albatross’ drawling, howling maniacy.”  The top 10 list also included Hairspray Blues, Wizard Boots, Hopeless Jack & The Handsome Devils, Alabama Black Snake and more.

The Ex-Girlfriends Club is excited to be ringing in the new year on KBOO 90.7 FM in Portland OR with their friends Di Di Mau! and Sexywaterspiders. This special on-air live performance will be part of XGFC’s series of release parties for their debut album. KBOO has agreed to let the band redub the radio station KBOO HOO HOO for the night to coincide with the album title Boo Hoo Hoo.  Big thanks to Sabrina Heavin for putting the show together and calling in to co-host the event from LA.

The Ex-Girlfriends Club are currently at Tiger Fight Studios in Portland, OR recording new songs for an upcoming album.  The album will include a number of songs that XGFC have been debuting at shows as well as a few tracks that have never been heard before.  The band is striving to achieve a live feel on this record and are recording all songs in one take.

We are very pleased to report that the tour was well received everywhere we went and all members and most of the gear survived the onslaught of the road. It was a very busy seven days and we were all running on adrenaline and sandwiches made from the back of the truck. Touring in a small space required that a bed be made in the back of the truck which Albatross took full advantage of during the long distances traveled. Granted there is not a lot to see driving thru the wastes of Nevada at 80mph and it made room for the book worm in the back jump seat to finish Nick Cave’s autobiography and Shantaram. Thankfully driving a grandpa truck Action Lord named “Lariat, Lariat Big Gay Chariot” kept us away from johnny law. There was one sheriff near Baker City that kept us on edge for 20 miles with pass-by’s and slow downs but Orion held his edge and we passed thru the valley of potential despair unscathed. Well played Orion, well played.

We woke up after the show in Arcata to sunshine, warm winds and some gnarled coastal pines. Arcata is a town not unlike The Shire complete with friendly shaggy locals, whiffs of Shire grasses coming from every direction of ocean breeze, the biggest mullet I have ever seen on a post lady and granola in greek yogurt. Nate, a local musician invited us to crash at his pad and gave us the low down on the economy of Humboldt county. Apparently an influx of Bulgarians into the area is a new development. These people are rumored to be the fiercest tigers in the zoo, making the county safe from such petty criminals like MS-13 and random russian toughs keeping them in their place with the occasional RPG launch, beheadings and sacking of property. Benevolent fucking Bulgarians.
We took some time in Santa Rosa to replace a wah pedal. After a google search gave us a random home phone number, a barber and an empty warehouse we found a music store called Banana’s at Large. Fully expecting a large selection of glockenspiels and flugelhorns we were pleased to find a helpful staff with the equipment we needed with 4 short hours left to rock in San Francisco.
We slipped into the eye of the city and illegally parked in front of Kimo’s, a venue the SF Weekly describes as “long a home to trannies and queers of all ages, Kimo’s has seen its Polk Gulch neighborhood evolve from a druggy hustler hotspot to a nighttime destination that attracts people from both tony Russian Hill and the hipper parts of the Tenderloin. Climb a flight of narrow stairs (the curse of all amp-toting musicians) and you’ll find a small but cozy music venue that hosts drag shows, indie bands, and the occasional DJ event.”  We played with a Portland band called Harlowe and The Great North Woods and a SF band called The Lotus Moons and were really impressed with The Niners. A local group in existence for two months at time of writing who already drew a large crowd and had hooks and sing along choruses the British would lose their chips over. We lost Action Lord to the city after the show and crashed with our longtime friend and transplanted Portland native Byron. He was an amazing host letting us snore on his floor and piling up all our gear in the narrow hallway of his flat. Byron was witness the girl fight over one of our t-shirts while manning the merch table. Details are sketchy but the rude one got her change back in quarters, due process when you pay with quarters in the first place.
The next day in the city was casual breakfast, much needed showers, a trip to Amoeba music and the ghosts of hippies and legends on Haight street complete with junkie shooting up in the bathroom of the bar we dropped into to enjoy an afternoon beer. Haight street is besotted with bums and hawkers and more bums. Jesus fucking christmas christ the bums! We got lectured for smoking a cigarette by a guy wearing a dust mask and a kimono, “does it make you feel high, does it make you high?” said the masked man repeatedly till he got a kick to the curb. We were running out of time on Haight street and had to make tracks to Oakland in rush hour. The shortest trip between shows on the tour.
