Big thanks to Scott “Deluxe” Drake from The Lovesores and The Humpers who spoke to Uber Rock in the UK and told them “I can tell you what bands I like most in Portland, Oregon: Hot LZ’s, Ex-Girlfriends Club, Celebrity Graves, Last 45s, Suicide Notes, No Tomorrow Boys.”

We can definitely say The Lovesores are one of our favorite bands in Portland too!

The Ex-Girlfriends Club play Rigsketball, land on comp

Who would have guessed that The Ex-Girlfriends Club would get their asses kicked by Hustle and Drone in their debut at Rigsketball, but when the 6’5” Albatross went down with a sore back the week before we knew we were screwed.  Luckily we can say that we got beaten by one of the teams that ended up in the championship!  The big winners are all the fans that get to enjoy one of the best comps of 2013.  Check it out on Bandcamp with tons of amazing bands like Typhoon, Aan, The We Shared Milk, And And And, TxE, Animal Eyes, Trick Sensei, Wooden Indian Burial Ground, Mannequinhead, Ed and the Red Reds, Fanno Creek, Soul Ipsum, Hustle & Drone, Bevelers, Sort Ultra, Rio Grands, Mr. Tang, The Morals, Souvenir Driver, Thanks, Otis Heat, The Hague, Skip Roxy, Eidolons, Vultures in the Sky, Brownish Black, A Happy Death, Charts, Con Bro Chill, The Suicide Notes, and DoublePlusGood.

Local Cut review upcoming Ex-Girlfriends Club show

Check out The Ex-Girlfriends Club show review in Local Cut.

THE EX-GIRLFRIENDS CLUB, SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR, HOWLIN WINO
(Kenton Club, 2025 N Kilpatrick) A number of squares heard the Ex-Girlfriends Club via their song “Blowback (I Am Your SuperPAC),” which became a minor internet sensation after Politico featured the video. Apparently, some people found it surprising when rockers in eyeliner and feather boas acknowledged the 1970s were dead long enough to be pissed off by a topical Supreme Court decision. Unfortunately, “Blowback” isn’t on Boo Hoo Hoo, the Ex-Girlfriends’ debut LP, which avoids anything remotely topical. This is a glam band, and their province is performance, not politics. Frontman Albatross has styled his vocals after David Johansen of the New York Dolls, though the aesthetic evokes a particularly druggy garage, with none of the Dolls’ sleeker R&B influences. The Ex-Girlfriends excel at grimy nursery rhymes (“Coming Off Benzos”), with a few weirder, dronier moments, as on the album’s standout, “I’m Not Your Man,” a sleazy celebration of the single life. bePortland review The Ex-Girlfriends Club show with The Dead Milkmen

Thanks to local Portland ezine bePortland for their review of our show with the Dead Milkmen.

“The temperature starts to increase as the glam rock five-piece Ex-Girfriends Club begins to play. Watching them strut and swagger without giving a single care, they bring a straightforward garage rock sound deep into the realm of the punk. Beyond this their lyrics are fun and easy-to-swallow, the song ‘Blowback’ reads “I’ve got a Super Pac, Uncle Sam fanny pack,” reminding me of a certain comedy rock headliner. But to discount Ex-Girlfriends Club as a gimmicky stage act would be a huge mistake, since underneath those bangs and tight pants is a super heavy, downright filthy mix of crunching distortion and reverb’d bass. Ex-Girlfriend’s lead singer rocked so hard at the end, he split his pants clean down the middle, a shocking but strangely appropriate thing to happen during their pretty outrageous show.”
